Volunteer information

Lady's Island Middle School

Proud to be a Title 1 School

Ladies and gentlemen,
If you intend to volunteer for the 2014-2015 school year, you must log in to the district website and apply.  Once that application is submitted, there will be a background check submitted.  I am the point of contact once you have submitted your application.  Once your background investigation comes to me, I will submit it to BIB (Background Investigative Bureau) and they will conduct the actual investigation.
If you were a volunteer last year, you still need to re-apply.  Applications are on an annual basis.  Do not expect this process to be done the same day.  We are being told that the process could take two weeks – so don’t wait.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 843-322-3118 or email me at barry.roberts@beaufort.k12.sc.us.

I hope everyone is having a great summer!!

Volume 1                                                    10th edition
HELLO COUGAR FAMILY!!  The last week of school is finally here!!  All students will be released at 11:30 on Wednesday. Do not forget to read over the summer!!  Fall will be here before you know it!!

Cougars are on the Prowl for Excellence!

This Summer, the building will be closed due to renovations. If you need assistance, please click on the link and  email Latanya Floyd, Barbara HolmesAnnette Chaplain or Mona Lise Dickson.

Thank you for time and patience as we move to improve LIMS.

South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) is requiring students entering seventh and eighth grades in the 2014-2015 school year to obtain one dose of Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) vaccine on or after their 11th birthday.  In order to ensure compliance with this future immunization requirement, I recommend making an appointment with your child’s immunization provider as soon as possible to update the school’s immunization record. Please send a current South Carolina Certificate of Immunization record to the school indicating all of your child’s immunizations including the new Tdap requirement for your child’s school health record before August 18, 2014 when school starts for the 2014-2015 school year.

Remember, South Carolina Code of Laws, Section 44-29-180, and South Carolina DHEC Regulation 61-8 requires all children have a valid current South Carolina Certificate of Immunization on file to attend school.

Thanking you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

Good News!!!
The Lady’s Island Middle Orchestra is now accepting new students for next year!  No experience needed!!!  Studies have proven that students who study music over time scored higher on standardized tests and are more likely to be organized, focused, and disciplined.  Students in orchestra not only learn to play, but also learn how to read music.  LIMS orchestra recently scored a rating of excellent at the Carowinds Music Festival and performs regularly throughout the school year on and off campus.

If you have a student that is interested in playing the violin, viola, cello, or string bass please contact Mr. Roedig, our chorus and orchestra teacher at 322-3168 or by email geoffrey.roedig@beaufort.k12.sc.us

On May 29th, Lady's Island Middle had an "Artist in Residence" by the name of Bob Doster.  Mr. Doster's art uses metal as his medium. To see some examples of his work, click here.
Madison Wyman (pictured below) said,“I think it’s a fun way to learn something new rather than sitting in the classroom.  Working with Mr. Doster allowed us to try something we haven’t done before and it’s been cool creating the sculpture for the school."

Mr. Doster was working with our Cougar Students to create a Cougar Sculpture.

“Best experience yet in school!  It was a great way to interact and learn from an outside artist.” Jacob Bootle

Last Thursday, Lady's Island Middle School held its first "Parent/Volunteer Appreciation Dinner".  Lady's Island Middle would like to thank the following businesses for their support

Lastly, before everyone gets too comfortable this summer, Alice Cooper would like to remind us that next fall is right around the corner.  Click here to see what he says!
